TERM 2 WEEK 1/2 NEWSLETTER 2024
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
ANZAC MARCH
Last Thursday we had a group of approximately 70 students and staff members take part in the Orange ANZAC Day march and commemorations. Congratulations to all of these students for proudly marching and representing our school on this important occasion and thank you to all of the parents, carers and staff members who supported students to attend.
I would also like to congratulate Ashton Tabbernor who had the special honour of reciting a poem at this year's Dawn Service. I was lucky enough to watch Ashton at the service and he did an amazing job, representing our school with pride.

SCHOOL NEWS
SCHOOL PHOTOS
Please note that our school photos will be held on Thursday, 16th May (Week 3). All students will have their photo taken. MSP Photographer envelopes were sent home with students on the last Friday of Term 1.
Students are required to wear full winter uniform for the photos.
WINTER SCHOOL UNIFORM
As the cold weather begins to set in, a reminder that we switch to Winter Uniform for Term 2 and 3. Though the school hat is not compulsory during these terms, students may choose to purchase a school beanie. Winter uniform can be purchased via the QuickCliq (canteen) app or placing an order at the school office. Good quality used items are also available at the school clothing pool.
Also a reminder as we move to our winter uniform that we have a high expectation for all students to be in the correct uniform. Wearing the uniform is not only important for the self-esteem of our students but promotes the school as a positive and proud part of the community. I have included the following table with the uniform requirements for Term 2/3 to assist parents/caregivers.
2025 KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS
As we move towards the half way point for the year we begin to make plans around our incoming 2025 Kindergarten students and in particular our school transition processes. If you intend to enrol a kindergarten student for next year, or know of someone that will be, please ensure enrolments are placed via the school office as soon as possible.
GETTING ON TRACK IN TIME – GOT IT! Program
Got It! is an early intervention program run by NSW Health along with NSW Department of Education. Your school has been offered a place in this exciting program.
The Got It! team will be running a 9-week program for children in Kindergarten to Year 2, aged 5-8 years and their parents, who are having problems with challenging and disruptive behaviour – at home or at school. The program will give families the opportunity to be part of a fun and supportive group that can improve child behaviour and family relationships and help parents deal with difficult behaviours.
Challenging and disruptive behaviour often causes problems in many areas of a child’s life. It can also be stressful for their family, friends and community. Sadly, these children can often be seen as ‘naughty’, rather than as children who are struggling with organising their thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
Got It! aims to give support and practical help to children and their families, and also to support the school community to help children get the most out of the opportunities available to them.
Early next term, all families will be asked to complete a questionnaire for each child in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2. Once you have received the questionnaire, please help us by returning it ASAP.
Got It! will be holding information sessions about the program at Orange East PS on:
Wednesday 8th of May - 9am, 12pm and 3pm
If you have any questions please contact the school for further information.
THE TELL THEM FROM ME SURVEY (YR 4-6 STUDENTS)
In Week 4/5, students in Year 4-6 will be taking part in the Tell Them From Me student online survey. The survey asks students about a range of school experiences, including their engagement and well-being at school. It also asks students about teaching practices and the learning environment. The survey takes about 20 minutes to complete.
Further information on this survey can be found at: Tell them from me (nsw.gov.au)
For parents/carers who do not wish for their child to take part in this survey, non-consent information will be sent out via School Bytes (email) this week. You only need to respond via School Bytes if you do not wish for your child/children to participate - by Friday, 17th May.
OPPORTUNITY CLASS PLACEMENTS (YEAR 4 STUDENTS)
Please be advised Opportunity Class Placement online applications have opened. The application closing date is 20th May with no late applications being accepted.
The applications are for students in Year 4 entering Year 5 in 2025 who are achieving at a very high academic level. Please note that the closest Opportunity Classes to Orange are located at Bathurst or Dubbo or online through the Aurora College program. Detailed instructions on how to apply are available online at:
Parents who wish to complete the application are welcome to use a computer in the school office if required (there are no paper application forms).
HIGH SCHOOL ENROLMENT (YEAR 6 TO YEAR 7)
For parents of students in Year 6 this year, Expressions of Interest for high school placement have now closed. If you have not yet completed this process, please contact your zoned high school as a matter of urgency.
EOIs will be assessed between April-August. After the EOI has been assessed, your child will be offered a place at a high school.
If your child will not be attending a NSW Government high school next year, please contact the Orange East PS office so we aware and can support any alternative transition/orientation activities your child may be involved in at their specific high school.
If you are unsure whether they will be attending a NSW Government school (you’ve applied for a private school, or you are moving interstate), we ask that you still complete the EOI process and follow up with your school once a decision has been made.
Below is a link to take you to further information about this process:
